Darcy Craven - Chief Executive Officer

Darcy Craven serves as Carolinas Hospital System’s Chief Executive Officer. Craven received his master’s degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University and bachelor’s degree from the University of Manitoba.

Craven has served as interim CEO and Chief Operating Officer for Carolinas Hospital System. Prior to Carolinas Hospital System, he served as the interim CEO of Cherokee Medical Center in Centre, Alabama and assistant CEO of DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, Alabama.

Costa Cockfield – Chief Nursing Officer

Costa Cockfield serves as Carolinas Hospital System’s Chief Nursing Officer.  Cockfield received her master’s degree in Nursing from the Medical University of SC and her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Clemson University.

Cockfield’s professional affiliations/achievements include: certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced by the American Nurses Credentialing Center; member of Sigma Theta Tau (National Honor Society for Nursing); serves on the South Carolina Hospital Association’s Workforce Advisory Committee and Quality Advisory Council; active member of  the South Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders where she served as a past President and a recipient of the South Carolina League for Nursing  Award of Excellence. Active in her community, she is also a recipient of the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina Women of Distinction Award and the first annual Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) Award.

Steve Embree - Chief Financial Officer

Steve Embree serves as Carolinas Hospital System’s Chief Financial Officer. Embree received his master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana and his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University.

 Prior to Carolinas Hospital System, Embree served as Chief Financial Officer at Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia. He has over 20 years experience in the healthcare field.

Tonda Haigler – Assistant Chief Executive Officer

Tonda Haigler serves as Carolinas Hospital System’s Assistant Chief Executive Officer. Haigler received her master’s of Business Administration from Mississippi State University, her master’s of Public Health/Health Administration and her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Before joining Carolinas Hospital System, Haigler served as Assistant Chief Executive Officer at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview, Florida.

Kevin W. Shea, MD, FACP - Chief Medical Officer

Kevin Shea, MD serves as Carolinas Hospital System’s Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Shea is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York, Brooklyn, New York and completed his residency and fellowship at Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola, New York.

Dr. Shea presently serves on Carolinas Hospital System’s Board of Trustees and was the former Chief of Staff from 2006-2008. He was previously associated with Carolina Health Care.
