Carolinas Hospital System Celebrates National Volunteer Week
Volunteers are integral to Carolinas Hospital System’s commitment to the community, by supporting the hospital’s mission of providing comprehensive care – physical, emotional and spiritual – to the residents of the Florence area.
During National Volunteer Week and everyday, Carolinas Hospital System recognizes the many contributions that these important individuals make, year-round. This year’s celebration, themed Volunteers – A Garden of Service, highlighted the ways that volunteers improve the lives of others around them through their incredible spirit of giving.
A strong base of volunteers is essential to a community hospital. “Carolinas Hospital System is fortunate to have the active involvement of more than 100 caring, generous individuals from the region who lend their time and talents to enrich the lives of others,” says Lynne Edgerton Driver, the hospital’s volunteer director.
The volunteers assist and enhance hospital activities to include: greeting and escorting patients and visitors, assisting with discharges, serving as resources at information desks and assisting staff with clerical duties. During 2010 alone, approximately 101 volunteers provided 14,894 hours of service to Carolinas Hospital System.
This year’s recipients of the Service Excellence Award were Margaret Altman and Carol Pappas. The Service Excellence Award is presented to a volunteer who consistently demonstrates a passion of volunteering with a positive and compassionate manner.
The Volunteer of the Year Awards were presented to Mae Adams and Pinkney Speights. The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to a volunteer who demonstrates extraordinary efforts in his/her performance, attitude and commitment to the mission of Carolinas Hospital System.
We are extremely proud of our volunteers and appreciate their dedication and time to the day-to-day operations of the hospital. They truly make the Carolinas difference!
