Carolinas Hospital System Celebrates National Nurses Week

Carolinas Hospital System recently hosted the 2011 Nurses Week Recognition Ceremony to honor the dedication and achievement of all the nursing staff.

This year, the Patient Choice Award was presented to Kim Gregg, RN, Ninth Floor. Kim was described as a nurse who provides consistent and outstanding patient care. She is cooperative, pleasant, knowledgeable and is truly an asset to the hospital. The award recognized the quality of care, comfort and compassion offered by the nurses at Carolinas Hospital System. This program solicited input from the community, which culminated with one nurse at Carolinas Hospital System receiving the Patient Choice Award.

“When we asked our patients and family members to help us select a nurse who had gone above and beyond the call of duty they responded with stories that touched our hearts and confirmed what we already knew. All of our nurses are extraordinary,” said James Brennan, MD, Chief of Staff for Carolinas Hospital System.

The 2011 Nurse of the Year award was presented to Krista Dorrell, RN, Emergency Services. She is a nurse who brings a wealth of knowledge to the Emergency Department. Passionate about her profession, she is a certified emergency nurse and serves as a charge nurse and preceptor to new nurses, which allows them to grow and promotes the nursing profession. Krista displays clinical expertise and maintains a high standard of care and compassion for her patients.

Also, three other awards were presented this year. Congratulations to Jeanette Humbert from Endoscopy, Nursing Support Champion; Dr. Evan H. Lee, Physician Friend of Nursing and Craig Momany, Assistant Controller, Nursing Leadership Champion.

“All of our Nursing Service employees are extraordinary. They are inspirational, compassionate and have many strengths. They are committed to quality patient care and have certainly earned our patients’ trust,” said Costa Cockfield, Chief Nursing Officer.
