Do You have a Wound that won't Heal?

Chronic wounds can be caused by diabetes, poor circulation, infection or pressure. These difficult wounds can be frustrating, painful and even dangerous.

Thankfully, help is available from the Wound Center at Carolinas Hospital System. We specialize in treating chronic wounds. Our unique team of doctors and nurses offers an effective approach to healing.

The Choice

The first step is to make the choice to get help. Don't be discouraged that your wound won't heal. Instead, be encouraged that a team of specialists stands ready to help you. The Wound Center was established for the specific purpose of treating chronic wounds, and many people are seeing improvement and healing as a result of our multidisciplinary treatment approach. Your family physician, who will continue to provide your regular medical care, will be kept fully informed of your treatment program and the progress you are making.

The Team

Effective treatment of chronic wounds requires a multidisciplinary approach. Our team of wound specialists includes skilled doctors and nurses. We share a commitment to helping people with chronic wounds that have resisted traditional medical procedures and treatments.

The First Step

Just call the Wound Center at (843) 661-3990 or toll free at (888) 635-9899. We will take brief information from you about your wound and general health, and schedule an appointment for you to come in for a visit. We will ask you to bring a list of medications you are taking, allergies you may have, etc. along with medical records which can be obtained from your regular doctor. Finally, you will need to bring any insurance cards, forms, etc. for any applicable insurance coverage.

The First Visit

As part of your initial visit, the Wound Center team will review and evaluate both your wound and your general medical history. If necessary, certain tests will be performed to determine whether you are experiencing problems with blood flow, tissue oxygenation or infection, and the role such problems may be playing in your wound's inability to heal.

The Treatment Program

After all information and test results have been analyzed, the Wound Center team, in partnership with your family physician, will develop a treatment plan based on the multidisciplinary approach.

You will return for regular visits to the Wound Center during your treatment, and will also be instructed in how to care for your wound at home, change your dressings properly and protect yourself from further injury.

It is important to note that you are the key to your treatment program. Success will result in large part from your level of participation and commitment. Working together, we will do everything possible to heal your chronic wound.
