H1N1 (Swine Flu)
To help prevent flu, including H1N1 (Swine Flu), according to the Centers for Disease Control:
- Washing with soap and water is better, but hand sanitizer is the next best thing
- Up to 80 percent of all infections get spread by hands, according to some estimates the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends hand sanitizers with alcohol c ontent of 60 to 95 percent
- Alcohol disrupts the coating of virus and bacteria particles
- Hand sanitizer does not protect you from whatever you may touch next
- The sanitizer works on contact, meaning it's only effective on the parts of your hands that it touches. That means if you miss a spot between your fingers, there could still be viruses or bacteria in that place
