Volunteer Program
Carolinas Hospital System is fortunate to be supported by over 140 volunteers who are 18 years of age and older. Typically, volunteers serve one half-day shift per week in an assignment area to match their need and schedule. Volunteers’ gift of time and talent enhance the services of their assignment area to hospital patients and their loved ones.

What are the Benefits?
Aside from the intangible benefits of knowing you are giving time and energy to the well-being of our patients and their families and to making our community better, you also receive tangible benefits. They include a free meal upon completing four (4) hours of service, around the clock access to the Carolinas Hospital System Employee Fitness Center, health screening opportunities, a volunteer uniform and free flu shots. Records are kept of volunteer hours served. Volunteers are recognized and honored at an annual luncheon and throughout the year for their many contributions.
Auxiliary Opportunities
Formed solely for charitable purposes, the Carolinas Volunteer Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization, which raises funds through special sales, baby photo services and other efforts. Donations include scholarships for students pursuing health care careers at Francis Marion University and Florence-Darlington Technical College and for the benefit of the American Heart Association, United Way, Mercy Medicine and many other nonprofit organizations. The Auxiliary invites all active volunteers to participate, without membership dues, in this exciting and valued organization.
Chaplaincy Program
To our ordained ministers in the Florence area, Carolinas Hospital System invites you to apply for service in a Volunteer Chaplains' capacity. Chaplains serve on an on-call basis during a select week. The purpose of the program is to provide effective pastoral care to patients, families and staff of the Hospital. Chaplains provide their message through a ministry of presence and listening.
Our Mission
The Department of Volunteer Services is committed to recruiting, training and placing qualified volunteers to provide desirable services, which enhance total patient care. We will provide members of the community an opportunity to fulfill their human need to give and to broaden their roles as community ambassadors while supporting and promoting the mission of Carolinas Hospital System to exceed our customers’ expectations.
